my husband's best buddy married the girl of his dreams a few months back and all i can say is wow. the bride was absolutely beautiful and the details of the wedding were jaw-dropping. i'm showing this one in two parts because between the craftyness of the bride and all the amazing pics, there is just so much to share!

the wedding and reception were at mcmenamins road house, inside the rustic barn.

so many fabulous details...all hand-made by the bride and groom...including the coolest ladder ball game ever.

and lots and lots of gorgeous flowers!!! it was so much fun working with such beauties!

a caramel apple party

no season excites me the way fall does. i love the crispness of the air, the changing of the leaves and the distant sound of parents and coaches cheering at the soccer games. i embrace the season fully, buying pumpkin after pumpkin, lighting all the candles in the house and baking. the house smells of nutmeg, cinnamon and apples. one of my favorite things to do during the fall season is make caramel apples. i've been doing it for years now. this year i invited my sisters and a few girl friends over. we drank homemade apple cider spiked with whiskey and laughed while decorating our apples with caramel and other toppings. here's to fall!

to make the caramel sauce, i just melted down tiny squares of caramel(unwrapping the caramels takes forever...it's nice to have a friend or sister or both help) and stirred in a little cream.

i picked up these beauties last weekend at the farmers market. i brought them home, cut and arranged them and then let my kitties get a good smell of them, snaped a few pictures of them radiating in the sun, before bringing them in the house to sit on my kitchen table. i love love love all the deep dark colors of fall in the arrangement.

oh are you ready for a bunch of sun-shiney yellow!? cause this wedding is so bright and joyful it will make your heart sing. it was a pleasure working with such a sweet, kind-hearted bride and her wonderful family. wishing both of you lots of love and joy!

we planted huge pots of yellow flowers for the alter and the table centerpieces were yellow gerber daisies in white pots from ikea that were later given to the guests to take home.

although we are coming to the end of the gardening season, all i can do is think about gardening. we just recently moved into a house with a big backyard and plenty of space to garden and all i want to do is plant vegetables and flowers. i did plant some herbs, and i dug up some of my moms plants from her beautiful yard and transplanted them to mine... i'm just wishing my garden looked something like this...

it was a beautiful fourth of july weekend up at mt. hood bed and breakfast...which is one of the most beautiful places in oregon to get married (i should know, i was married there 4 years ago!). in addition to the a-m-a-z-i-n-g setting, joy and stephen are two of the most joyful, beautiful people i have ever met. their love for each other and for those around them radiates so brightly. i am so glad that we got to be a part of their special day! lots-a love to the both of you!

joy wanted to accentuate the beauty of the location by keeping with the organic nature of the bed and breakfast. for the flowers we chose local and mostly organic flowers (some even came from our yard). orange poppies, calendula (which has medicinal properties, perfect for joy seeing as she is going to school to be a nautropath), dhalias and carthamus to name a few. we also used white scabiosa, veronica and queen anne's lace.

the dinner tables were arranged with a collection of vintage clear glass vases and moss.

a long weekend

hubby and i spent the long weekend camping in the redwoods (northern california) and in ashland (southern oregon)... we hiked, watched a Shakespeare play, drank by the campfire and celebrated our four years of marriage together. I thought i'd share some pics from the trip...
first the redwoods, if you have never been you really should go, these are some of the largest trees in the world. the only word to describe the experience is...magical.

then we drove to ashland for a night where we went out to dinner then watched a shakespeare play in the open air theater... it was a great weekend together! what did you do?

i picked these beauties from my mother-in-laws yard a few weeks back and thought I'd share them. i love the deep rich purple of the lilacs. i have had peonies in my house ever since the first blooms were ready this year (which seemed to take forever!). right now i have three different bouquets in my house that i made for a photo shoot that i did today... you will have to wait to see those till the end of the week.

there are so many fun and creative ways to let your guests know where they are seating. these are a few of my favs...
the old window

the old window, door or picture frame painted with chalkboard paint (how to instructions here)

you can also use picture frames

if you are wanting to go the escort cards route, then here are some ideas...
old keys buttons or other trinkets are unique and perfect for a vintage wedding

you could also paint the names and table number on rocks, or use clothes pins to hang them from ribbon attached to old doors, window shutters or even an old mattress spring.

anything can be used to mark the tables, but i especially like these ideas

today is date day with the hubby! i'm excited. this new job and new routine has got me so tired that i haven't wanted to do anything but sleep when i get home from work. so it's nice that hubby wants to spend some quality time together... we are having a glass of wine now, then off to look at a few houses to rent, followed by sushi and cocktails and then a movie...i sure do love the boy. what are your weekend plans??

paper flowers!!?? i bet you didn't see that one coming from a florist. but for real, faux flowers can really add a lot to your wedding (and they can be inexpensive!). now i'm not suggesting that you use JUST faux flowers, we all know that there is nothing better then the real deal, but used in combination the two can make for a real statement wedding! You can put them on your cake...

instructions on how to make crepe paper flowers here. you can use them for your ceremony backdrop, my ultimate fav being from this wedding below...

you can make GIANT flowers and use them on your tables or to carry like this bride did, instructions here.

not interested in making your own? well bhldn sells some hand-made bouquets and garlands...but be ready to pay an arm and a leg, or go here for some single blooms.

i am also a fan of these feather flowers made by rebecca thuss, which can be used as boutonnieres, in the hair or in your bouquet.

the possibilities are truly endless and these flowers are easy to use, seeing as they don't need to be watered and kept out of the heat.

who doesn't love pinwheels?? they are so fun and flirty and a great little detail to add to your special day. you can make a bunch of them and take pictures in a field of pinwheels... or make super sized ones like this cute couple did.

on this beautiful thursday, i am loving anything that is dip-dyed. it's the new tye-dyed... more sophisticated and clean then the hippie-wear ( don't get me wrong, i love me some tye-dye). what i love most about it, is that you can dye ANYTHING. for example, check out this spoon instillation at a museum in paris.

i am totally loving these ombre dyed escort cards... i think that it is a great idea for the invitations as well.

I am planning on doing this one below for my next photo shoot. I am going to take white napkins and dip them in blue dye! i'm really excited to see how they turn out. instructions here.

a field of flowers and dreams

a few weeks back i had the privilege of working with amy on a photo shoot. my sister makes these amazing accessories and wanted amy to take some pictures... i jumped in and asked if she wouldn't mind taking a few pictures of some bouquets of mine. what we ended up with was a beautiful day in a field taking pictures of flowers to be worn {earrings made of tulip petals!!!} and carried (along with other beauties).

rachael has such a talent of coming up with unique and never been done before ideas... such as her collection of "live" jewelry. above are the tulip and seed pod earrings. my favorite are the lichen earrings below, how much do they rock?

I hope everyone had a nice weekend. Mine was busy! drive to portland, take my brother to the ER for a skateboarding accident, meet with two brides, drive back to eugene, deliver some mothers day arrangements, and then sunday drive back to portland for mothers day brunch with my husbands family. needless to say, i slept in this morning. yet, it was all worth it... for all the mothers and especially my three mothers... thank you for all you do, you are amazing!

{how AMAZING is this dress (above)??? it melts my heart i want it so bad!! i used to have a dress that looked similar, it was pink and white, that my mom made for our cino de mayo festivities in elementary school!}

and what about a yummy blood orange margarita??? Signature cocktails add uniqueness to your wedding or party and they can help cut down on the cost of alcohol because instead of having an open bar (where guests are sure to overindulge) you can offer them a special cocktail or two.
