it's all in the details: paper lanterns

Paper lanterns add so much fun color and texture to your wedding.  I actually hung a variety of colors and sizes above the dance floor at my wedding.  I love how they used ribbon to hang the lanterns in the above picture.
These lanterns above were spray painted, which is a good way to save a little money, but maybe a little messy??? DIY instructions here (let me know how it goes if you give it a try). If you are interested in buying them you can find a huge assortment of sizes and colors here.

If your looking to do something a little different with your paper lanterns, I love the idea of covering them in crepe paper like below, instructions here.

Yellow, grey and white seems to be a very popular color pallete for summer weddings. This board was designed for a couple of my summer brides.

spring is in the air

The smell of daphene and blooming trees has got me going loco for spring. The warmer longer days, the visions of new life everywhere (i live right by ponds that are full of little ducklings) and the smell, oh the smell of blooming flowers.  I am loving soft pinks, yellows and blue-ish greens this spring.

around the house

Before i left on my little spring break vacation  i planted some pansy's in a tea cup and some succulents in a red pot(notice the billy balls added for texture and pizazz). I also threw a little air plant in a tall vase.  I was excited to come home and see that they had survived the cold lonely house and the cats.
head over to small but charming for more flowers around the house.

it's all in the details: pom poms

Pom poms are a great and inexpensive way to add so much color and texture to your wedding.  You can hang paper pom poms from anything using fishing line, or connect them, hanging them like a banner.
Paper pom poms can be easily made using tissue paper, how-to instructions here, mini poms here, or you can buy them from a local portlander here(she made that polkadot pom below... how cool!!??).
Pom poms can be made out of almost anything. I love these fabric poms, hanging from ribbon. How-to instructions here.
You can also make them from tulle, instructions here.
And what about this little detail... pom poms wrapped around your bouquet, it adds a little extra touch of fun.
My favorite use for the pom poms has got to be using the little craft-store poms as confetti. It is such a fun and colorful way to say hooray and congratulations as apposed to the typical rice or bubbles.

How do you plan on using pom poms at your wedding??

wonderland

I am so loving this wonderland collection by kristy mitchell.  Seeing as i love flowers so much, it makes me so excited to see them used in different artistic mediums.
I love how she uses the natural beauty of the world around her to add to the magic within her photos.
That umbrella above is covered entirely of foxglove, made by kristy. She actually designed and made all the costumes and accessories for the collection herself! Talk about a talented girl.  You gotta go check out the rest of the collection, and the behind the scene shots! It is amazing, and the story behind the inspiration for the project will bring tears to your eyes.

it's all in the details: terrariums

Terrariums are such a fun way to add unique detail to your wedding, because they add so much life and color. While they can become a little expensive to buy, making them is fun and inexpensive.
They can be used to add a little something more to your tables; used as place card holders or centerpieces.
I love the horse in the above picture. Whats cool about terrariums, is that you can put whatever you want in them, making each one unique to your wedding.

They also would look fantastic hanging from a tree or arbor as the backdrop for your ceremony, or hanging from the ceiling for the reception, or as a backdrop for your cake table.
The ones above are made using small hanging glass holders which you can buy here, or you can use clear glass ornaments like below, filled with whatever you want.
The best thing about terrariums??? You can give them to guests, or keep them in your house for years to come! If you want to make your own, instructions for terrarium place cards holders are here. If you love the idea but don't have the time to make your own and live in the portland-eugene area or anywhere in between, give me a call and i will make them for you.
